The depth of the Evangelist as a Minister
The depth of the Evangelist as a Minister
Evangelism can be done as Christians live their regular life. You can witness to your friends, family and co-workers as you go through the day or perhaps take them to lunch or have a cup of coffee with them.
You can pray for them daily and simply be a Light in their world: available for them when they need you.
We perceive Pastors however to be Ministers; men with a deeper training, experience and understanding of Scripture. When Christians have questions or need serious help they go to their Pastor.
Evangelists likewise are to be perceived as Ministers; they have a commitment to the Word and Prayer (Acts 6:4); a significant amount of experience witnessing and ministering to unbelievers; additionally they have interacted with authorities during their evangelism, encountered lots of opposition, and have been immersed in the world of evangelism.
Thus the Evangelist has the experience, training and understanding in their world of evangelism as the Pastor does in his world of pastoring.
This is a major part of the teaching Bill Adams does at the Summer Conference. Teaching this reality and emphasizing to the Evangelist they need to respond to this higher calling. They are not 'evangelism volunteers' they are Ministers of the Word now and should live and prepare to meet that calling.
